WELCOME TO THE PAGE OF IDIOTS….

Since 1992, we have assembled on an annual basis to try and put together teams of NFL players that would score enough points to bring our fantasy teams to victory.

Unfortunately, as time went on, the composition of the league changed.  People left, new people came on board.  An official “scrapbook” has not been kept of these team members.  But it is the year 2001.  It is time to keep better track of the people who have nothing better to do with their time than pretend they are an NFL coach and GM.  Starting with the class of 2000 participants, the following are the team members.  As time goes on, any changes to the league personnel will be added.

E-Mail all teams with a message

JOE TRITZ

Joe is the one who got the ball rolling back in 1992.  Joe was an actuary at Sentry Insurance Company, along with a bunch of other schmucks who felt like trying their luck at fantasy football.  At the time, the whole craze was just getting underway.  Joe now works at the Noel Group as an actuary for Travel Guard International.  Joe’s favorite sport is football, and he’s a huge Packers fan.  E-Mail.

DAN MERK

Dan has been an original member since 1992, and was in the same actuarial department as Joe.  Dan is still at Sentry Insurance and actually seems to enjoy actuarial work.  Dan and Joe go way back, having been in school together from Kindergarten through college.  Then they worked together.  It’s actually a bit worrisome when you think about it.  Dan loves football, but actually likes baseball better.  He runs a fantasy baseball league as well as a keeper league in fantasy football.  He likes the Brewers and the Packers.  E-Mail.

MIKE WILLIAMS – retired in 2001

Mike also is an original member of the league and worked with Joe in the actuarial department at Sentry Insurance.  Mike also still works there.  Mike is pretty much an all-around sports nut who follows all the Wisconsin sports, pro and college alike.  A good golfer, Mike has left Joe a number of strokes behind many a time on the links.  Big fan of the Badgers teams, Brewers, Packers, and Bucks.  Usually has an adult-oriented team name.

LOU KORTH

Lou is likewise an original member of the league from Sentry Insurance.  Lou still toils in the actuarial department there as well.  Lou can be considered a casual fan.  He follows the teams, but for some reason he doesn’t seem to live and breathe sports.  This is confusing, but he has been accepted nonetheless.  This proves, of course, that you don’t need to be an avid sports follower to field a good fantasy team.  Lou has an instinct which enables him to field a good team with minimal work.  On the other hand, the guy never gets high score for the week, either.  Big Lou, as we like to call him, used to be a volleyball machine.  I believe he is semi-retired.  E-Mail.

RON CLEMENTI – retired in 2001

Ron is the final remaining original member of the league, also from Sentry Insurance.  Ron no longer works in the actuarial department, but remains at the company.  Ron has one goal in mind on draft day: draft Packers.  Ron is respectfully known as “The Canadian.”  This is because he hails from Canada originally.  He’s proud of his heritage, having never become a U.S. citizen.  He has no e-mail address.

PERRY PAZDERNIK – retired in 2001

Perry was not with us the first year, but joined our league the second year in 1993. Perry also worked at Sentry Insurance, and still does. He is not an actuary, which means he is actually normal.  Perry also follows the Pack faithfully and plays a mean, sweaty game of basketball.  You want bruises?  Guard Perry.  He’s been up and down in the league from year to year, but has generally been fairly successful.

JEFF KLEMAN

Jeff joined the league in 1993. He was only in it for one year because he moved away after that season.  After a three year hiatus, he moved back and when a spot opened up he came back and has been gracing us with his presence ever since.  Jeff is an old college buddy of Joe’s.  He’s a huge Buffalo Bills fan.  Need I say more?  No e-mail address.

KIT KIEFER

Kit has been with us since 1994. Kit was a scary guy to let into the league, since he works with sports cards, memorabilia, publishing, writing, etc.  The school of thought was that he’d have a bunch of inside info and we’d all be dead.  He went to the Fantasy bowl in 1994, further solidifying our fears.  Check out the record book.  It’s been slow going since then.  You’d never know what he did for a living.  He has put together a couple of good teams, but it just goes to show that knowledge doesn’t always mean much in fantasy football.  You need to be lucky as well.  To be fair,  I think 2000 was the first time Kit didn’t draft for somebody else. E-Mail.

WENDY TRITZ

Wendy has also been with us since 1994.  Her last name is the same as Joe’s for a reason.  They are blissfully married.  She thinks Joe is the greatest guy on the planet.  Joe is writing this.  We broke the gender barrier by allowing women in the league in 1994.  Wendy teamed up with Julie Merk (hitched to Dan).  They embarrassed us all.  They went to the playoffs in 1994 and won the whole thing in 1995.  They were pretty consistent through the years.  But, Julie bowed out after the 1999 season and Wendy is now going it alone.  We will see how she does on her own. E-Mail.

CATHI NEUFELD

Not to be outdone by Wendy and Julie,  a new women’s team sprang to the scene in 1995.  Cathi Neufeld teamed up with Jill Williams (Mike’s ball and chain).  As if we weren’t embarrassed enough about the dominance of Wendy and Julie, Cathi and Jill duplicated their effort.  In 1995, they made the playoffs, only to be defeated by Wendy and Julie.  In 1996, they won it all.  The men were protesting the women.  We had to evaluate our masculine outlook on personnel evaluation.  We adjusted.  No women made the playoffs after 1996 until Wendy and Julie made it as a wildcard in 1999.  The men were back.  Like Wendy, Cathi is going it alone this year.  Jill had enough after the ’99 season and Cathi has taken over.  We’ll see what she can do with an usually successful team. E-Mail.

SCOTT MILLER

Scott also joined the league in 1995.  He joined Sentry a bit later (a youngster compared to the rest of us), and still works in the actuarial department there.  When a spot opened up in the league, he jumped at the chance to join.  He has been to the big dance three times, but has yet to win a championship.  Scott also follows the Pack, and was usually the one we made guard Perry on the basketball court.  He’s a big guy, at least compared to the rest of us losers and can take the pounding.  He’s also a good softball player, and has the quickest golf back swing I’ve ever seen. E-Mail.

BRUCE GEORGENSON

Bruce joined the league in 1996, a year or so after moving to Stevens Point and working in the Sentry actuarial department, where he still goes about his business.  As big a Packers fan as he is, he’s a larger Badgers fan, both football and basketball. Bruce didn’t start his career at Sentry like many of us.  He worked in Minnesota for a few years, where he experienced first-hand the pathetic morons who call themselves Vikings fans.  E-Mail.

CULLY SWANSEN – retired in 2001

Cully has joined us in 2000.  Joe first met Cully in fourth grade, I believe, when he moved to Pittsville.  As the years went by, we realized we had a lot of common interests, not the least of which was music.  We formed the legendary band Cold Heat, and also wrote and taped skits in our spare time.  Strange?  Yes.  Fun?  You bet.  Swansen moved to Minnesota for musical pursuits after college, and only recently moved back into the central Wisconsin area.  For some reason that I have never understood, he is a lifelong Steelers fan.  But he does also back the Pack, so he’s OK.

SEAN NIMM

Sean also joined us in 2000.  Sean works at Sentry Insurance, and is also one of those young guys who is starting to take over their actuarial department.  Joe worked in the department with him for a couple years, but knows enough about him to realize his sports savvy (he’s in Dan’s keeper League as well).  Sean is expected to be an immediate worthy competitor, which is really not what we were looking for at all.  Oh, well.  Both he and Cully will be much more on top of things than the guys they are replacing, so they round out our competitive 14-team league nicely.     E-Mail.

TJ SCHWEBACH

TJ joined in 2001.  While new to this league, he is a veteran of the Merk Keeper league, and will be a worthy opponent to all.  We first met TJ though Jeff Kleman, who worked with him at Furniture and Appliance Mart Superstore.  E-Mail.

RON TIPPEL

Ron joined us in 2001.  Ron went to UW-Stevens Point where he first met the commish.  Ron was re-acquainted with Joe a few years later, when he married a former neighbor.  Ron’s expertise is in computers, doing something or another.   E-Mail.

JASON SCHILLING

Jason also joined us in 2001, after asking about the league last year.  He works in the IS department at the Noel Group, where the commish now works.  He also attended UW-Stevens Point at about the same time as Joe and that’s where they originally know each other from.  Jason should be  a worthy opponent in the realm of fantasy football.     E-Mail.

DAN McGINNITY/TOM ZAVADSKY

Dan also is an employee at the Noel Group. Dan’s always been a sports fan, but has also been pretty busy.  He has decided to try his hand at fantasy football in 2001, and the commish welcomes him aboard, hopefully to stay!     E-Mail.

Tom is Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Travel Guard International, or something like that…  While McGinnity has the sweat equity in the fantasy team, Zavadsky has a financial stake, and gives behind-the-scenes advice.  Tom does seem to follow sports enough to have a clue what’s going on, and is a big fan of a good dirty joke.   E-Mail.
